I will never forget traveling to California with Joe so he could learn how to drive a Super Comp Dragster. For those of you who do not know what that is, luckily you have the power of Google. No matter how many times my husbands explained something about racing to me, It goes in one ear and out the other. (Like a lot of things lol) It's a race car that goes really fast. It's not uncommon to see these Dragsters reach 180 mph in just 8.90 seconds. You can imagine the butterflies in my stomach and the worry in my heart. But at the end of the day, we all have our dreams. Some dreams are a lot safer than others!Â
We headed out to California. Got our luggage situated before venturing back out to Joe's favorite place to eat. Which obviously takes precedent over my favorite places. After a long flight it's really hard to say no to Carne Asada Fries and a Coke! Even through I still feel like In-N-Out Burger is superior. We headed off to the race track to get all the paperwork and passes taken care of. We met with his instructor Tom Bayer and his wife Gina. Once everything was set up Joe and Tom went through a learning session. Within a few hours, we were heading to the staging lanes for Joe's first pass! Luckily, there is a way to dial up the dragster so his first pass was at a lower speed. Then with each pass, they turned him up faster and faster getting him dialed in. Each time he would finish he had the biggest smile on his face. Like a kid opening up Christmas presents!
He completed his training and they gave him a license to drive a Super Comp Dragster. A few months later, after some magic in the works. Joe was sponsored by Lucas Oil to drive one of Tom Bayers Super Comp Dragsters racing the K&N 8.90 Series. He went out to California for the racing series six times. Was the lead in point most of the season, won first place trophy at his 4th race and took home the Rookie of the Year trophy at the end of the year banquet!
I am beyond excited for him and the amazing opportunity IÂ have to fly out with him on racing weekends to support his racing adventures!
XO
