I am so grateful to have met this sweet family! Ashley, Brian and Owen were so much fun to work with in the last days of fall. Now that the rush of fall editing and holidays are settling down I would love to take a trip back into my fun little stories about each family and the wonderful adventures we had together!
Bonding with kiddos wasn't easy for me when I first started photographing families. I was scared! It's almost like they could smell my fear or desperation to provide amazing photos for their Mommy and Daddy. Taking 2018 by storm, I replaced my fears with positivity and love for documentary style images. That's right. Not so "posey" and more fun, natural, and joyful images! I asked myself, if I was not able to connect with a sweet kiddo, what could I do to still give an amazing experience and beautiful pictures for my families?Â
So I started with bonding with the parents and taking their pictures first. It may not seem like a huge step, but it has gotten 80% of the kids interested in what they are doing. Happy to pose because "everybody is doing it." If that didn't work, I would use other methods of mine that work wonderfully. But above all I give kids the grace they need while capturing this sweet moment in time.Â
Can you believe in a lot of my fall sessions, I have had sweet kiddos wanting to be close to me or even hold my hand by the end of the session? Which I find incredibly sweet! I just want to thank the McKay family for trusting me with their memories and all the laughs we had along the way!
