I was full of Christmas spirit and generosity. My very first FaceBook live, I went on my photography page and I drew names for a free full family session. It was so exciting! I didn't want to let that excitement go! So I decided to draw names for a bonus 20-minute mini session. I was so thrilled to pull Kayla because she is so happy every time I see her!
I drove to the location in Brandenburg called Buttermilk Falls. As soon as I got out of my car I heard the low rumbling sound of rushing water. I prepared my camera and went to investigate where the sound was coming from while waiting on Kayla and Lee to arrive. I found the most beautiful mini waterfall and couldnât help myself from taking a couple of pictures of them. I wished I had brought my tripod for a beautiful long exposure. Long exposure takes waterfall pictures to the next level. Instead of getting a quick snap of aggressive water bouncing off rocks in messy droplets. I would create another way to witness this type of natural beauty. I would be able to show a visible representation of how calm this waterfall actually is. Frozen forever in a calm stream of limitless beauty. This thought was so calming.
When Kayla and Lee arrived we walked to the bridge she mentioned and right away. Her makeup was done by Heather Guzman! She looked so flawless! I am always so excited to take photos of my clients in full glam! Going through those extra steps to glam up your hair and makeup can make worlds of a difference in your images! I knew it was going to be so much fun because they were up to listening to my posing prompts and genuinely giggling at each other-- which continued throughout their session!Â
"If it feels awkward, it looks great!"Â
I'd say to them in the beginning. If it feels awkward, it looks great! This couldnât be any more of an understatement as sometimes when I am directing my clients how to pose, people don't naturally do these certain prompts! I am actually guiding my clients into poses where I can catch candid and joyful moments. It wasn't easy at first but after years of getting the hang of it, I realized that all I am trying to do is create a wonderful and joyful experience to capture that genuine feeling. Which includes taking the stress of worry of what to pose like away from my clients and providing a reliable system that works every time! After a few photos on the bridge, we drove close to Jail House Pizza and took pictures in the scenery surrounding us. It was so lovely to see them laughing and giggling at each other the entire time. I thought it was hilarious that I kept complimenting their jewelry, only to find out that they were gifts from each other! But it complemented their outfits so well I would have never known!
