My sister, Heather, says that life is either a daring adventure or boring. We chose adventure with my niece and nephews. Dayâs before our session we had freezing rain so bad, it knocked down trees and power lines. Our location, Battle of Corydon Park, was no exception. Upon arrival we discovered a pretty hearty tree had fallen blocking the entrance. We didnât let that stop us picking up my niece and walking around the tree through the brittle woods. Perhaps it was a bit dangerous, had it been a different client I may have reconsidered our options. On this detour, my sister pointed out the beauty of the fallen tree and had us all take a peek into the trunk filled with white crystalized sap.
Once we reached the cabin. My niece ran up to the house with joy in her eyes! She was ready for her close up! The boys are amazing big brothers. They held her hand and frolicked around in the leaves with her. âSay Cheeeeeeseâ They would look at the camera with big smiles or give me funny faces. We walked down a short trail into the woods. The beautiful autumn trees were a glow. Every so often a gust of wind would send leaves falling from the canopy. Isaiah picked up the leaves and threw them in the air as I captured his joy and outgoing personality. They gave me their best zoolander poses on a bench I like to stop at. Then of course I gave them a directions for those adorable frame worth images I know their mama will love! My niece started to get a bit restless. But her hero big brothers tried to distract her by doing silly things to make her laugh so I can get some great images of her too!
Taking pictures of my own family feels like every family session Iâve had. I am one of them and there to capture important times in their lives. Though my sis may have wondered if I was able to get any good images based on her childrenâs behavior. I welcomed the challenge and did not disappoint! On the walk back to the car, I looked back at my family. The wind blew through the trees and a steady rain of leaves were falling. âSTOP!â I ran over, quickly positioned them and began vigorously clicking my shutter button. The beauty of fall surrounded them. As I am a people centered photographer the main things I focus on while photographing is light, skin tone and capturing the joy and love of families. Having such beautiful backgrounds is a great bonus! Such a beautiful way to end a fall session!
