Newborn Photography.
So you might be a mommy to be right now. Or you might be a photographer that would love to get into Newborn Photography. Newborn photography can be costly, but is it worth the stress of finding a photographer? Of Course it is! Let's say you are a mommy to be. You put intricate thought into every item in your baby's nursery. You have spent a ton of time googling and asking what the best type of bottles are, the safest carseat, how often to feed your baby, how to prevent diaper rash, etc..Â
Searching for a Newborn Photographer in your area may be a little tougher than you think. I have worked with many new parents and newborns. I am going to go ahead and let myself say here is my professional opinion when seeking out a newborn photographer and what you should be looking for-- whether you chose Elisa Lucas Photography or another local photographer. Without further ado, I welcome you to read the top 5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Newborn Photographer!
#1-- SAFETY FIRST
IÂ cannot stress enough how important it is to have a team of people that know what they are doing when it comes to handling your dear newborn. True, babies are resilient. But the safest way to get those adorable bendy, squishy baby yoga poses is to have one photographer and one spotter with baby for the duration of the session. Newborns do not tend to roll. For safety it's good to have a spotter there at all times ensuring baby isn't going anywhere. Also, you will want your photographer to be wearing a camera strap at all times. Those beautiful shots looking straight down on your newborn can be a disaster should the camera slip out of his or her hand. Check to see that your photographer has a list of tips for your newborn session as well as covering their safety methods. The exception here is when a spotter is not available is to do poses safe for baby and for photographer to remain very close by at all times.Â
#2-- STYLE
Choosing your photographer by their personal style (posing and editing)Â is an important part of trust between a client and their photographer. Handling your newborn from start to finish let them reassure you that your baby photos are going to look amazing. But also let them do their thing! Being as relaxed as possible while your baby is put in those adorable positions will help the flow of the session and make the energy in the room so comfortable your baby will feel at peace! They pick up on energy!Â
#3-- TIME IS EVERYTHING!
And don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Timing is key and important to highly consider when doing newborn images. Let me break it down for you. Within the first 3-14 days your newborn is on a sleepy, milk-drunk, swaddle loving, squishy baby posing marathon! This is the perfect time to capture their newborn memories and the clock is ticking! Before you know it your newborn won't be so sleepy, they may sleep well after a good bottle but picking-up and arranging and changing or posing is going to wake your newborn right up-- and he/she may not be in a good mood! Your newborn will figure out how much they love stretching and those cute swaddle poses will become near impossible with a little Houdini on your hands. Trust us.. they will find their way out. And last but not least, any poses that are a staple to newborns go pretty much out the window as they quickly lose the ability to comfortably and safety be held in certain positions
#4-- TALKING WITH YOUR FAMILY
Explaining to your spouse and children why this is important to you will help get everyone on the same page. Especially If you plan of having lifestyle type images in your newborn package. Having everyones help and understanding will make for a smoother session for all! Especially when trying to keep certain areas you wish to be photographed in your home tidy. Typically we would start with your newborn and siblings then excuse the siblings from the shooting area. We do not mind parents watching us do our thing or even taking pictures of us while we are providing you with beautiful newborn memories. (Just get my good side lol)
